Living the Great Commission Daily
Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission is a calling for ordinary believers, not just pastors or missionaries. It emphasizes that even among the disciples who worshiped, some had doubts, illustrating that Jesus reaches out to those still seeking understanding.
Before giving the mission, Jesus grounds it in His identity and authority (“All authority…has been given to me”), shifting the focus from our confidence to His lordship over every part of life. “Go” is explained as “as you are going,” meaning mission begins where you already are through intentionality, everyday justice, mercy, and humility
(Micah 6:8).
Discipleship is people-centered rather than pressure-filled, built through relationships, example, and gentle, respectful witness (1 Peter 3:15). Teaching means how our obedience is lived out in our lives (James 1:22). The message ends with Jesus’ sustaining promise of presence (“I am with you always”) and the encouragement that faithfulness in small moments advances God’s work.
