As You Go...

Updated: Sep 23, 2020

At the end of this summer, we kicked off a new family ministry initiative we're calling, "As You Go."

The idea comes from Deuteronomy 6:6-9 that reads,

"6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."

God instructs the people through Moses to be teaching their children the commands of the Lord. When and how should they be doing that? Everywhere and always. There can certainly be special times we devote to teaching about God but His Word and the good news should be on our hearts and in our lives in such a way that we are talking about His goodness all the time. We are sharing about God with our children both when we sit and as we go.

What Vern, Kayley, and I set out to do was to create a weekly list of ideas that would help families put those ideals into action. For the last month of summer vacation, before school started up, we distributed weekly kits that had print-outs, challenges, crafts, and more to kick-off the ministry in a fun and interactive way.

As we move into the next phase of things, our hope is to have a post each week on this blog that has a text of Scripture to focus on for the week along with anywhere from 5-10 ideas that can be used as sit-down times for a family, or things to do as you go. Normally, each Scripture or story will correspond to the lesson the adults would receive that week from the sermon so ideally, the whole family will be learning together through the process.

We will maintain the family ministry group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/284506172857279

Comments can also be made on the new forum on the family ministry page and via the church's portal on the wix app:

May you and your family be richly blessed as you partake in this ministry.
