When we pray, it is important to remember who we are and who God is. What are we praying and why?
Proverbs 3:5 reminds us to lean not on our own understanding.
The video lesson references 2 Old Testament stories (Elijah in 1 Kings 19 and Abraham in Genesis 15, 16). In which these men pray not merely based on their own understanding, but trusting in it over trusting in the promise of God. (check the video here: https://youtu.be/NWOwWMwiC4c)
We live in a "put up or shut up" and a "my way, right away," culture in which many feel the pressure to go-go-go and do-do-do. The temptation is to lose faith in an almighty God - that is ALL MIGHTY! What do you believe about the Lord and what will you teach your children about who He is? How does that come out in your prayers. The challenge this week is tp pray and trust God to work. The old saying was, "let go and let God."
Here are some AS YOU GO ideas:
1. Trust falls!
2. Keep asking kids to get things for you that are right next to you, then when they are about to get them, get it yourself...
3. If you don't have a copy yet of Draw the Circle or the Draw the Circle Journal, get one and start it. The devotional thoughts and prayer prompts from the books are easy to translate to children of any age. Commit to praying together as a family for 40 days!
4. Watch a video made for kids about God answering prayer, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf-tWJs6iXY
5. Start a new memory verse, Proverbs 3:5 or Philippians 4:6 would be good suggestions.
Philippians 4:6, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
Be blessed this week as you go...
